Gathered Collab Community Spotlight

Alex - Gold Ordon.

Tell us a little about you and how your brand began.

Hey, my name is Alex, and I started Gold Ordon in 2014 after returning home to Australia from living in London. It was on a holiday to Bali when I began making myself some sandals to wear, as I had only brought one pair back with me and to be honest, I couldn’t find any styles that I liked. Returning home after my holiday, compliments lead to me curating a list of pre-orders which ultimately lead me to making this a side hustle. So, from footwear to beaded accessories the brand grew, and I ended up moving to Bali to focus on the brand
primarily.

What inspires your work?

I would say my surroundings, not just the environmental aspect but also the community, the women I have around me, the environmental challenges we face daily and most importantly the impact fashion has on consumerism / the world.

What’s your favourite product you create - and why?

To be honest, it’s my hand beaded creations because not only does it remind me of my mother’s 80’s beaded jumpers with shoulder pads, but the women who I work with to execute the products are just so inspiring. I have a small but very talented team of women who work from home whilst juggling motherhood, some of their children aren’t accepted into a normal education curriculum so they care for them at home, with their grandparents too because in Indonesia there is no retirement villages – I love this aspect of Indonesia as well! Family is the priority. So sending a bundle to her home so she can bead, create, and earn extra income for herself or her family fills my cup. Each piece holds so much more value once you know how much hustle has gone into it.

What’s something people might not know about your process or business?

That’s a very interesting question because there is probably a lot but because having an online business means your communication with people is jaded, in fact I miss that part of retail, greatly! So, the jewellery range I offer is sourced from within Indonesia which is why when styles sell out the chances of me being able to restock them is slim. This can be frustrating sometimes, but it also makes each piece unique so when you do purchase a style the likeliness someone else will have it is super slim – And I kind of like that!

What do you love most about being part of our Gathered community?

How much time do you have? Haha no, but honestly... Despite the fact they are a team of driven women with an unstoppable
vision, it’s also their ethics and how they go about business in general. The juggle of life, motherhood, business, creativity and all whilst radiating positivity and light - So many pages taken from their book!

What’s next for you? Any exciting things coming up?

Well perhaps you may have noticed in store I have released a new range of bags; Arizona Rider was first but now her little sister has arrived – The Breaker Bag. The name was inspired by the size, which somewhat resembles a lunchbox shape but with a cute small and mighty vibe. I decided to release more fun colour options for the summer / silly season and quite frankly I have been carrying mine everywhere. Cruelty free fabrication and production, which also means it’s easier to take care of and is a lifetime investment.

Much love,

Alex xx
